World Championship 2002 - Definitive Results

The table below gives a full breakdown of the results. Jaco Blignaut managed to come 13th overall placing 30th and 9th respectively for the two days. This is a fantastic effort considering what our team was up against. Our team had no budget to speak of and any moneys spent came from their own pockets. Some of the European teams have huge sponsorships with massive back-up personnel and literally spend months scouting the areas. The top teams apparently scout a year before the comp at the same time as the comp is to be held. This is to experience the same conditions, as the World Championships will have. To say that the playing fields are not even is a huge understatement. The other South African placings were: Guila Plagani 36th (34+32), Gary Hazel 45th, Ryan Burmester 49th. Ryan and Gary dived one day each so their final placing will be taken from one days catch and divided by two. This will obviously give them a worse placing than had they dived both days. Well done to all team members. The team beat the likes of Greece and Australia in the final placing coming 9th overall.
