Selection Reef

This reef is found towards the southern end of Umdloti, a small beach town 30km north of Durban. The reef gets its name from the old Selection Hotel that is long replaced by some faceless cluster development. This reef is famous for the garrick and natal snoek that have been shot here over the years and is also a good spot for white musselcracker in the season. It is a shallow dive reaching 8m on the outside edge and has some interesting caves if you know where to look. This reef was the favourite haunt of African diver Sikheto Denge, and he could be found here most days if the water was diveable. He passed away some years back whilst on a shore dive in the Umdloti area.
